This picture by NASA was taking the day after the Mars Rover landing. The 2.6 billion rover has taken a color picture of the alien land as seen above.
The picture was shot by Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI), there is a lot of dust in Mars which is why the image is not clear, but the picture–according to NASA is showing the north wall and rim of Gale Crater. Landing of another planet is an amazing accomplishment, what they are yet to discover would be more interesting. But for now we got a color photo.
