Speculation circulating around the web is that Facebook is working on a ‘want’ button. While your everyday Facebook users will make use of this button, and possibly for a wish list; I think it is aimed at brands and advertising.
People will be more inclined to buy a product or click on an ad if 30,000 people ‘want’ it. Lets just say Nike is releasing new tennis shoes called ‘Nike TS’– Nike release the Nike TS on their Facebook brand page and 88,000 people click the ‘want’ button. An ad for Nike could read “Pre-order your Nike TS now, (88,000 people want this)”
If Facebook are working on a ‘want’ button, it can possible be one of their more lucrative products and an indirect competitor to Pinterest, depending on how the wish list aspect of the product turns out.
Here is a look at what the ‘want’ button may look like (from Mashable)
There has been no official announcement, it may just be an experiment, but it is not a bad idea- and may very well be a great idea. If it is to be released, Facebook will test it regionally first before launching it worldwide.
You may have a ‘want’ button next to your ‘pin’ button in the near future.
