Google’s I/O conference was a spectacle that had people eager to get their hands on the ‘Google Glasses’ project but the officially release date and price is yet to be determined, although Sergey Brin gave a hint as to when we can expect it.
As of now, only a few developers that attended the I/O conference will get their hands on the ‘Google Glass Explorer Edition’ at a cost of $1500 on pre-order.
The explorer edition is to be released sometime next year (2013) and Sergey Brin told Bloomsberg that the Google Glasses will possibly be available within a year of the explorer release which puts the release date somewhere in 2014 for consumers.
As for now the price is $1500, I doubt the consumer price will be that much, I predict it will be below $1000 for consumers, if they want to sell to the masses.
Speculation around the blogosphere is that Apple are going to be working on a competitor. A bit too early? It will make more sense to develop a competitor after it is released, so that they can make a better version.
